Orlando Tops Spring Break Destinations

TAMPA (970 WFLA) -- Spring break is a big deal in Florida, and not just with college students.

A new survey by AAA Auto Club Group, based in Tampa, says more than half of Floridians who plan to travel this year, are working in a spring vacation of at least three days.

Spokesman Mark Jenkins says it's not just college kids going spring breaking. 55 percent of Floridians planning any travel are going on a spring fling. 80 percent of millenials in that category are doing likewise. Most in both groups are going with family members rather than friends.

Three out of the top 10 spring break destinations in Triple-A's survey are in Florida: Orlando at number one, Fort Lauderdale at number 3, and Miami at number 8. Locations in California, Hawaii, Arizona, Mexico, Jamaica,  and the Dominican Republic round out the top ten. Jenkins says the combination of theme parks and other destinations with beaches an hour away on either side, makes Orlando's advantages obvious.
