CareerSource CEO fired with severance and back pay

By a 6-1 vote, the CareerSource Tampa Bay board has voted to fire CEO Ed Peachey and give him a five-month severance plus back pay for the month he's spent on unpaid suspension.

Board member and Hillsborough County Commissioner Sandra Murman voted no, calling the decision to give the controversial Peachey severance and back pay for the month he's been on unpaid suspension "absurd".

Last week, Murman had asked fellow county commissioners to recommend that Peachey, whom she says earned more than $200,000 a year, be terminated amidst state and federal investigations into the non-profit employment agency in both Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.

There are allegations that Career-Source, under Peachey's leadership, inflated jobs numbers to the state for incentives.

Peachey has denied any wrongdoing.  He's currently suspended with pay from Career-Source Pinellas.  That board meets on Wednesday.
