Police Arrest Suspect in Attack at Tampa Hotel

Composite Sketch of Hotel Attacker - From Tampa Police

Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Police arrested a registered sex offender they suspect in an attack of a hotel worker.

Officers arrested John C. Eckhard, 41, Friday in the attack Tuesday at the Marriott on Westshore Blvd., where police believe Eckhard followed a hotel employee into a public restroom and held a knife to her throat. She managed to get to her radio and call for help.

The attacker ran away, but Tampa Police say they found Eckhard Friday, and that he matched the composite sketch they had of the attacker. He let them search his backpack, and they say they found the knife and a pair of gloves the victim described the attacker using.

Eckhard faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and kidnapping with intent to harm or terrorize.
