Sarasota sheriff wants retired law enforcers as school guards

Likening them to "sky marshals", Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight wants the school district to hire retired law enforcement and military personnel to patrol public school campuses.

Knight says it's a concept he's been wanting to do for the past two years.  But he says the need for extra school security is more pressing now and believes he has the support of the school board.

Knight says the officers would carry a concealed weapon and be trained on active shooter tactics.  They would be paid by the school district an hourly wage and only work week days and during the school year.
