State House Rejects Assault Weapons Ban

TALLAHASSEE (970 WFLA) -- Less that a week after the school shooting in Broward County, the Florida House of Representatives votes not to consider a bill banning what are often called assault rifles.

The bill has never been heard in committee, so Miami Democrat Kionne McGhee tried a procedural maneuver to bring the bill to the floor.

The House voted not to bring the bill to the floor, 71-36, on a party line vote without debate.

A hundred students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland are on their way to the state capital, to call for stricter gun laws in Florida.
