Tampa, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-Area gasoline prices have dropped by 10 cents a gallon in the past week. AAA says the Tampa Bay average is down to $2.53 for a gallon of regular gas.
Auto Club Group's Mark Jenkins says significant gains in both oil and gas production in the U.S. are behind the price drop. Jenkins says drivers may even see some additional price drops at the pump this week.
There is some possible bad news ahead for gas prices. Jenkins says he expects prices to shoot-up 20 to 30 cents a gallon between March and May as refineries conduct yearly maintenance and make the change to summer-blend fuel.
The most expensive gasoline in Florida remains in the West Palm-Boca Raton area at $2.69. The least expensive gas is in Pensacola at $2.46.
