Rays Endorse Ybor Stadium Site

TAMPA (970 WFLA) -- The Rays give their blessings to a ballpark site in Ybor City.

Rays owner Stu Sternberg says the Ybor site represents the finest opportunity for baseball to thrive in the Tampa Bay, saying "this is where we want to play baseball."

Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan and Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn emphasize that the move won't happen without corporate support.

Sykes Enterprises CEO Chuck Sykes announced the formation of Tampa Bay Rays 2020, a panel to rally corporate support to buy tickets. Across the bay, St Pete Mayor Rick Kriseman still hopes to retain the Rays, but says he's instructed staff to begin working on a site plan for Tropicana Field... without a field.
