Saying the opioid crisis is "a top priority", U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions visited with federal prosecutors in Tampa and delivered a 25-minute speech to reporters and staff with the U.S. Attorneys Office in Tampa.
Sessions assures that the Trump administration is dedicating more resources to investigate, enforce and prosecute opioid and prescription drug-related crimes.
He says the medical community needs to help reduce the number of drug addictions by prescribing fewer pain killers. Sessions says the Drug Enforcement Administration will do more to ensure that doctors and health care providers understand the need to limit the amount of pain medication prescribed.
Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, who met with Sessions in Tampa, says she even supports prescription caps for doctors.
Sessions says White House is also providing more DEA agents to investigate and enforce illegal imports of Fentanyl, which he describes as the "number-one killer" in the U.S. today.
