Former Tampa Murder Suspect Found Incompetent

Tampa, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-A mental health expert has concluded that former neo-nazi and double murder suspect Devon Arthurs is not mentally competent to stand trial.

But prosecutors asked the judge to get a second opinion.  Defense attorneys objected, but Hillsborough Circuit Judge Laura Ward has agreed to appoint a second mental health expert to evaluate Arthurs.

He's accused of killing two of his roommate in Tampa Palms last year.  Investigators say Arthurs told them he became angry when fellow neo-nazi roommates Jeremy Himmelman and Andrew Oneschuck ridiculed him for his recent conversion to Islam.

A fourth roommate, Brandon Russell, happened upon the murder scene.  He was eventually charged with possession of bomb-making materials.  He pleaded guilty to those charges in Tampa federal court and sentenced to five years in prison.
