Tarpon Springs, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A suspicious-looking package caused police to close a road and evacuate four homes Saturday morning as the bomb squad investigated.
A U.S. mail carrier flagged down a Tarpon Springs Police officer at about 8:30 a.m. and pointed out the package in a parking lot at 309 E. Tarpon Ave.
The object, about the size of a football, was wrapped in gray tape, and had what appeared to be a wire protruding from one end of it, according to a news release from Tarpon Springs Police.
Police evacuated 301, 309, 313 and 315 E. Tarpon Ave. and closed E. Tarpon Ave., between Safford Avenue and Grosse Avenue until the Tampa Bay Area Regional Bomb Squad could determine at about 12:00 p.m. that the object contained sand and was harmless.
