It's Scam Calling Season in Florida

TAMPA (970 WFLA) -- Watch your phones. It's scam season in Florida.

The Health Department in Hillsborough County says people are claiming to be health workers for Blue Cross and Blue Shield, calling people and asking for social security numbers and other personal information. They spoofed or somehow got access to a number that goes to a state office. FDOH says it never makes cold calls to conduct surveys.

Meantime, if you get a call or voice mail asking you to contact Sergeant Michael McCray with the Hernando Sheriff's Office, ignore it. Sheriff Al Nienhuis says they're trying to trick you into paying "fines"... that you probably don't owe... right into their pockets.
