First Report out on Foggy Bartow Plane Crash

BARTOW (970 WFLA) -- The preliminary National Transportation Safety Board report is out, about that plane crash in Bartow that killed five people.

It reveals that pilot John Shannon had filed an instrument flight plan to travel to Key West, and had asked the plane be towed to the runway, because he didn't want to risk bumping into a hangar in the reduced visibility.

Shannon and four others died in the crash Christmas Eve morning. Conditions were foggy, with visibility less than 1/4 mile according to the report. Other reports say Shannon had been certified to fly in foggy conditions.

A full accident report by the NTSB could take up to a year.
