Tampa Police: Street Race Kills Innocent Driver

Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A street race led to a crash that killed a man not involved in the race, Tampa Police said.

Joseph Obregon lost control of his Dodge Ram at high speed as he raced another truck Tuesday morning on Sligh Ave, police said. It was Obregon's 31st birthday. His truck struck a Toyota SUV crossing Sligh at Highland Ave. The impact sent the SUV into a TECO pole. William Val Schwartz, 78, a passenger in the SUV, died. Its driver suffered critical injuries, according to a TPD news release.

Obregon faces charges including vehicular homicide, reckless driving with serious bodily injury, and racing. Police have not found the other pickup truck or its driver.
