Run Across Skyway for Military Families

ST. PETERSBURG FL (970 WFLA) -- For the first time in three decades, you'll be able to run across the Sunshine Skyway.

A charity that supports military families is staging a 10K run over the bridge that crosses the mouth of Tampa Bay. That's the exact distance between the two rest stops.

Spokesman James Judge says the "Armed Forces Families Foundation" has paid for several projects to give military families a better life. These include the USO room at Tampa International Airport, playgrounds at Mac Dill Air Force Base, and waiting rooms at James A. Haley and other VA hospitals.

The run takes place the morning of March 4th. It costs $75 to join and they're limiting participation to 7,000 people. The last time a run was staged across the current Skyway bridge was before it was opened to the public in 1987.

The bridge will be closed that day from 4 to 10 a.m.
