Eight Hours and That's It for Teachers

TAMPA (970 WFLA) --The head of the Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association says her members are "working the contract" this week -- which means working the eight hours they're required to work and no more.

Jean Clements insists it's not a protest, but a way to demonstrate how much time teachers put into their jobs. "It's really tough... (our teachers) are having a hard time getting everything done... or just walking out and leaving it behind... because they care so deeply about their kids and their schools," Clements said.

Clements hopes the no-extra-work stance will convince school board members and administrators to give teachers a pay raise. They say the district is breaking a promise. Superintendent Jeff Eakins says the budget is too tight to give teachers a raise.
