Small Plane Crash Near Clearwater Airport

Clearwater, Fla. (970 WFLA)- A small plane made a crash landing Sunday morning on North Keene Road in Clearwater.  

The pilot 61 year old Marc Benedict of Clearwater and his passenger 55 year old Gregory Guinee of Clearwater were not injured. 

The single-engine Rockwell International Aircraft 112-a was flying over  Sunset Point Road and Belcher Road area when it started having engine trouble.

Pinellas county deputies say the pilot was trying to make an emergency landing but clipped a tree, which caused the crash. 

 Investigators say both the pilot Benedict and his passenger Guinee refused medical treatment.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is being conducted by the FAA and NTSB.
