Two Arrested After Robbing Ruskin Convenience Store


Riverview, Fla. (970 WFLA)- Two bay area men are facing over 17 criminal counts between them after robbing a Ruskin RaceTrac convenience store,  and shooting at an employee while on interstate 75. 

The Hillsborough Sheriff's Office says 19 year old Kendrick Atkins of Riverview, while distracting the store clerk, stole four cartons of cigarettes .  Atkins ran out the door, where 22 year old Tyler Johnson of Tampa,  was waiting in a stolen 2008 Dodge Charger.  

While on her way home, a RaceTrac employee recognized the Dodge Charger from the robbery. When the suspects realized she was behind them, Atkins, allegedly began shooting at her. She was not injured. 

Deputies found the stolen Charger, at the Allegro Palms Apartments in  Riverview.   After a short foot chase, both suspects were arrested.  Deputies recovered the cigarette cartons and two guns.  

The Dodge Charger was reported stolen on Nov. 11th.  One of the guns was reported stolen on June 17th,  from a car that was left unlocked. 

 Both Johnson and Atkins in the Orient Road Jail while detectives continue, their  investigation.
