TAMPA (970 WFLA) -- The head of theHillsborough teachers' union insists it didn't put students up to walk out of class, on behalf of their teachers, who aren't getting a $4,000 pay raise.
Jean Clements of the Classroom Teachers' Association calls those protests an "organic groundswell of support." Nonetheless, she says she's "heartened" by the student protests.
Hundreds of students marched out of classrooms at eight high schools Wednesday.
The school board says it needs that money for other purposes, and insists Hillsborough teachers are among the best paid in the state.
