New President and CEO at TECO

TAMPA (970 WFLA) -- A new face at the top at TECO. Nancy Tower takes over as President and CEO of Tampa Electric at the end of the month... Tower comes here from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It's the home of TECO's parent company, Emera,  which has a better than average record of bringing women into the top jobs.

More than a quarter of Emera executives and a third of the board members are women. Tower credits Emera management for working to bring women into the upper ranks. Tower has been Chief Corporate Development Officer for Emera, and played a crucial role in the TECO acquisition.

Tower was also involved in a project to connect the island of Newfoundland to the North American power grid, spanning 100 miles of open water. She says it emphasized the importance of attention to detail, and having a strong team of people focused on a goal. She intends to apply those lessons in the corner office at TECO.

Tower arrives in the aftermath of an accident that killed five people at the Big Bend power plant last June.

Tower is succeeding Gordon Gillette, who's retiring November 30th.
