Pinellas Park, FLa.-(11/5/2017)-Tampa Bay area radio veterans, for the most part, have survived another year to gather for the annual Radio Reunion. It's a chance for those of us who've worked in this radio market to reconnect.
The numbers keep getting smaller at these reunions. Yes, some have died, but there aren't as many LIVE BODIES in the radio biz as in the old days. We have a lot of stations that have syndicated programming from somewhere else. Remember when there were local voices on all the area radio stations?
I've been lucky to work in this market for over 30 years. 970 WFLA has kept live, local, news going for many years. Other formats have come and gone, but news is still a relevant product.
There could be a point in time when there won't be a reunion of radio folks here. We could all be replaced by robots.
It's important to make money, but I got into radio to have fun. You know, talk dirty and play the hits. The groupies, meeting the stars and getting free passes to all the cool events.
Looking forward to another reunion. In the meantime, support your local radio announcer.
