Irma Assistance Deadlines Approaching

TALLAHASSEE (970 WFLA), Nov. 6 -- Some important deadlines to apply for assistance after Hurricane Irma are coming up, and state and federal officials are urging you to not miss them if you need help. 

November 14th (a week from Tuesday) is the deadline for disaster unemployment assistance. You may be eligible if you lost your job as a result of Irma, and aren't eligible for regular state unemployment insurance. Applications are made through floridajobs.org 

November 24th is the deadline to apply for individual assistance and Small Business Administration loans. For individual assistance, use this link: disasterassistance.gov For SBA loans use THIS LINK.

The state of Florida is offering short-term, interest-free loans up to $50,000 for small businesses that experienced physical or economic damage during Irma. The deadline is November 30th.  Go to this link.

FEMA has extended "transitional sheltering assistance" for people who need a place to stay because their homes suffered damage during Irma to December 2nd. FEMA is still taking applications here.  

Other forms of help remain available longterm. Flood insurance policies that expired between August 7th and October 6th are eligible for grace period extension, if payment is received within 120 days of expiration.
