U-Haul Truck Driver Hauls After Crashing Into Beach Garage

St. Petersburg, Fla. (970 WFLA)- The 32 year old driver of a U-Haul truck is in jail, facing multiple charges, after crashing the truck into the entrance of a hotel  parking garage, in the 3000 block of Gulf Boulevard, in St.Pete Beach.

The truck was too tall to clear the entrance, and caused substantial structure damage to the garages drop ceiling.

Steven Clarke, a valet worker at the Hotel Zamora  heard a loud boom, but by the time Clarke reached the garage entrance, the driver, Edgar Hidalgo of Sarasota, had the truck in reverse and drove off.

Pinellas Deputies stopped the truck at Gulf Winds Drive at 64th Avenue.

Hidalgo was arrested and is facing charges that include DUI, possession of cocaine and leaving the scene of a crash.

No one was injured.
