The new bell schedule plan calls for elementary schools in Hillsborough County to begin at 7:40 a.m. The first bell would ring at 8:30 for high school students and 9:25 for middle schools.
School superintendant Jeff Eakins says the proposal is based on feedback from parents and teachers. He says the changes aren't arbitrary, but carefully considered to provide more efficiency in school bus schedules.
The Hillsborough School Board will take up the issue at its board meeting next Tuesday. If they approve it, the new bell schedule will take effect in the fall of 2018.
