Tonight is "Night Out Against Crime" night in many Bay area communities, including Tampa. Nationally, police put on this community event in August.
But Janelle MacGregor with Tampa police says it takes place in October, for an obvious reason. .. the weather is better.
MacGregor says the city is also celebrating a 57 percent drop in crime over the last 10 years, thanks in part to increased collaboration between officers and resident.
Tampa's event is taking place in four locations... at the Bryan Glazer Family Jewish Community Center on Howard Avenue, the Gwen Miller Center, Benito Park, and the IKEA store just south of Ybor City. It runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Clearwater and Sarasota are also observing National Night Out tonight.
