First Work on Selmon-Gandy Link Starts Today

Starting today (Monday) , construction workers take a first step toward building the extension connecting the Selmon Expressway to the Gandy Bridge.

Melissa McColley with the Selmon Extension project says a drilling crew will start exploring the soil at several locations from Culbreath Key to the current end of the Selmon.

McColley says no lane closures are expected in the daytime, but inside or turn lanes could be shut down overnight, between 9 pm and 6 am.

These workers are taking samples and readings, to help engineers decide how to put in support beams. That's expected to take about three weeks.

The Selmon Extension will allow motorists to use a toll link for a shorter drive from the current end of the expressway to the Gandy. At the other end, a project currently under construction will connect to I-275.
