SPRING HILL (970 WFLA) -- Hernando deputies have removed a child and more than two dozen animals from a home filled with the odor of urine and feces, and charged the homeowner with animal cruelty.
Deputies went to the house at 14120 Cobra Drive in Spring Hill Monday after getting a call from the Department of Children and Families. A DCF investigator told them the living conditions were unsatisfactory. They went inside and found the floor covered with urine and fecal matter.
They called animal control for assistance, saying the homeowner, Jennie Card, 44, told them she had a lot of dogs and they might bite. Two dozen dogs, according to deputies, along with two cats and two birds.
One of the dogs was extremely malnourished and had an injured right paw, with exposed bones covered in duct tape. A cat had a smelly wound on its neck that was covered in pus.
Animal Services took all the pets away, while DCF remove a child who was living there.
Card allegedly told deputies she couldn't afford to pay for veterinary care. She faces two counts of animal cruelty.
