Gas Shortages Widespread as Floridians Flee Irma

TAMPA (970 WFLA) -- Despite the best efforts of Governor Rick Scott and the Florida Highway Patrol, the percentage of gas stations that have run out of fuel is increasing Thursday afternoon across Florida, as people pump faster than trucks can ship.

Governor Scott has ordered troopers to escort tankers from the Old Port Tampa terminals to stations around the state.

The Gas Buddy website (gasbuddy.com) or (tampagasprices.com) says 42% of West Palm Beach stations are tapped out. In Gainesville it's as many as 44%. Here are results from other markets.

  • West Palm Beach: 42%
  • Miami/Fort Lauderdale: 39%
  • Fort Myers/Naples: 31%
  • Gainesville: 44%
  • Tampa/St Pete: 33
