Lakeland, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A hit-and-run crash left an 11-year-old girl walking home from school with serious injuries, and a 33-year-old man facing charges.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office said that William Hull of Lakeland veered off the road on Idlewild Street at about 4:10 p.m. Friday and struck Trinity Hamilton as she walked home from her bus stop.

A witness who saw the collision told deputies that a white Ford 150 pickup truck hit Hamilton, turned and drove away, a PCSO news release said. She went to St. Joseph's Children's Hospital in Tampa with a broken jaw and a dislocated pelvis. Hull drove to his mother's home and, according to the arrest affidavit, parked inside a fenced back yard trying to conceal the damage to his truck.

The sheriff's office posted photos of the suspect vehicle on social media, and they say that brought in tips that led to Hull, whom they say admitted to the crash.

He faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury and tampering with evidence.

Hamilton is expected to recover fully.
