Coast Guard rescue of two people in a plane that crashed into Tampa Bay

St. Petersburg, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-The U.S. Coast Guard has rescued two people after the plane they were in crashed into the bay, just off Albert Whitted Airport.

Coast Guard units were called in after the airport tower reported a single engine airplane had crashed into the water during a take off attempt. A 29 foot Coast Guard response boat was sent to the scene and got the two people out of the plane and into the rescue boat. Two good Samaritans also helped in the rescue effort.

The two people rescued have been identified as 78 year-old pilot Gerald Kerr and 72 year-old Elizabeth Reynolds.  Both are being treated for minor injuries.

The F.A.A. is investigating the crash.
