Kissimmee, Fla. (970 WFLA) - One police officer was killed and three wounded in nighttime shootings in two Florida cities Friday. One officer was killed and another gravely injured in Kissimmee, just south of the theme park hub of Orlando.
Officers Sam Howard and Matthew Baxter were checking suspects in an area of the city for drug activity when they were shot, Baxter was killed and Howard, gravely wounded.
The other two officers were injured a couple of hours later in Jacksonville, one of them shot in both hands and the other in the stomach.
A suspect in the Kissimmee shooting, Everett Glenn Miller, 45, faces a charge of premeditated murder. He was arrested about two hours after the shooting in a bar. He had a 9mm handgun and a revolver on him.
The shooter in Jacksonville was shot and killed when police returned fire.
