LARGO (970 WFLA) -- Stories about children dying in hot cars in the summer are all too common. Now police in Largo say a man is facing charges because his infant son died an an overheated mobile home.
William Francis Hendrickson, 25, is accused of aggravated manslaughter in the death of his eight-month-old son, and neglect in the case of his two year old daughter. She's recovering from severe deyhdration at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.
Police went to assist child protective investigators at a residence in the King's Manor Mobile Home Park, 1399 South Belcher Road, around 12:30 Thursday afternoon. They found Hendrickson's son unconscious and began CPR while calling paramedics. Despite their efforts, the infant died at the scene.
Both children were in a bedroom where the temperature reached 109 degrees Fahrenheit (42 degrees Celsius). They also say Hendrickson had been told by social services not to leave his children in that hot bedroom.
