Pasco County, Fla. (970 WFLA)-Did a faulty Takata airbag contribute to the death of a 34 year old Pasco County woman?
Nichol Barker died last week, after her Honda Accord was hit by a Pontiac Firebird, driven by a 19 year old New Port Richey man.
Now Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Investigators along with investigators from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirm that Barkers' 2002 Honda Accord had an original equipment Takata airbag, and the way her cars air bag deployed, was consistent with previous Takata airbag events.
When a defective Takata airbag inflator deploys, it can send shards of broken metal flying in the air, cutting through the bag. Millions of airbags have been recalled. The FHP says they will provide more information, as the investigation continues.
