The Tampa Bay Buccaneers now say they support removing a Confederate soldier's monument from outside the old Hillsborough County Courthouse.
The Tampa Bay Times had asked local sports franchises to weigh-in on the controversial issue. The Tampa Bay Rays responded that the team wanted the monument removed.
The Lightning, however, decided to stay quiet about the issue, believing it's a decision made by elected leaders. In a statement, the Bucs said the statue is not, quote, "a true and accurate depiction of the values that made Tampa such a great, progressive city."
Last month, commissioners narrowly supported keeping the statue where it is, but Commissioner Les Miller says he'll bring up the issue again next week.
