Distracted Driver Crashes, Kills Self on I-4

Plant City, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A driver distracted as he reached for something inside his vehicle died after losing control and crashing on I-4 early Sunday, Florida Highway Patrol said.

The driver, 43, not identified because next-of-kin had not been notified, was traveling westbound on I-4 west of Branch Forbes Road at about 2:30 a.m. when he reached for something inside his Honda Odyssee and lost control of the minivan. It ran off the road and struck the guardrail. 

The driver did not have on his seat belt and was thrown from the van on impact. Two passengers who did have their seat belts on survived with only minor injuries.
