St. Petersburg, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A blown tire caused a fatal crash on Interstate 275 in Pinellas County Saturday night, state troopers said.
Gabriel Matthews, 20, lost control after his left rear tire went out at about 6:40 p.m. on I-275 north of 4th Street North. His car went off the road and struck a pole.
Matthews, a resident of Palm Harbor, died later at an area hospital, according to a news release from Florida Highway Patrol. He did have on his seat belt at the time of the crash and alcohol was not a factor.
