Tampa's Police Chief Is Retiring

Tampa, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-Police Chief Eric B. Ward has announced his retirement after 29 years at the Tampa Police Department.  Ward served the last two years as chief.

Ward says it was a tough decision after spending his entire adult life at T.P.D. Ward's retirement takes effect later this month.  Ward will go to work for Tampa-based Coca-Cola Beverages Florida after leaving the department.

Mayor Bob Buckhorn says he'll conduct a national search to find Ward's successor. Assistant Chief Brian Dugan will serve as interim chief.
