Plant City, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting at a B.P. station at East Alsobrook Street and Park Road here. Officers have now identified the man as 35 year-old Jesus Cervantes of Plant City

Police say it started with a 911 call from a man who said he was being chased by people in another vehicle.  Attempts to locate the phone's location showed the call came from a mobile phone.  While officers were checking the last known area of the caller's location, a black Nissan tried to run an officer off of the road.

Officers then chased the speeding car and used stop sticks to deflate the vehicle's tires. In spite of the deflated tires, the speeding car still did not stop.  the car finally crashed on B.P. station property.

Officers asked the driver to surrender, but he refused.  When the man reached for something in the back seat, fearing for their safety, two officers shot Cervantes.  The officers are now on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a shooting investigation.
