Body of Missing Swimmer Recovered in Tampa Bay

Robert A. Lucas

Tampa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Tampa Police's Marine Patrol recovered a body in the Tampa Bay off the beach at Cypress Point Park Sunday morning. They believe it to be that of Robert A. Lucas, who was last seen Saturday afternoon swimming in the bay at Cypress Point Park.

Family members reported Lucas, 36, missing at approximately 2:50 p.m. on Saturday. Divers and marine units from the Tampa Police Department, the US Coast Guard, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission searched for Lucas Saturday afternoon and into the night. The search resumed Sunday morning, and they found the body at about 9:40 a.m., according to a news release from Tampa Police.

The medical examiner will determine the body's identity and cause of death, "though it appears that the body is Lucas and that he drowned," the news release said.
