MULBERRY, Fla. (970 WFLA) - An owl was found in the net of soccer goal, but it must have felt like anything but a winner.
The Great Horned Owl was discovered by Randey Hubbard while riding his bike at the park off West Carter Road in Mulberry Thursday morning.
The bird's feathers and wings appeared to be entangled at the base of the goal.
Hubbard told News Channel 8 that he tried to help, but the owl became upset. He and his daughter kept watch to protect it while calling local agencies for help.
“I wanted to make sure because they were mowing and stuff around it. I wanted to make sure they didn’t push the net or anything like that. I didn’t want it to get hurt,” Hubbard said.
Two biologists came to the rescue and helped free the owl, and released it back into the wild.
“We got to experience it getting cut out and everything so it could be free. It was really neat to see,” Annika Hubbard said.
