TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Former Tampa Chief of Police Jane Castor is running for mayor, according to News Channel 8.
Sources confirmed that Castor will be among the candidates trying to fill the office being vacated by Bob Buckhorn, who's leaving after the two terms limit.
“If you had to pick a frontrunner right now, because she’s the best known among the people who are seriously considering running,” political analyst William March told the TV station.
“She also, I think, would be most likely to be viewed as carrying on the Bob Buckhorn legacy," March said.
Castor herself has not confirmed the report.
A survey from Stpetepolls.org had Castor as the clear favorite, although the election isn't until 2019.
The survey results had Castor at 37%, Council member Mike Suarez at 10%, and Council Member Harry Cohen was at 6%.
