Joshua Cox, arrested for killing his dog in Bradenton, Fla.

Bradenton, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-Manatee County Sheriff's Office Deputies have arrested a man for killing his dog.

Nineteen year-old Joshua Cox is charged with animal cruelty and possession of marijuana. Deputies say Cox admitted to killing his three year-old pit bull.

Deputies say it all started with a call about a suspicious person after Cox asked a resident on 20th Street, West, to borrow a shovel to bury his dog. Cox told the man he had to kill the dog because he did not want to take it to the pound.

Deputies caught Cox trying to bury the dog in his backyard on 19th Street, West. As they were making the arrest, deputies found a baggie of marijuana in his pocket.
