Sarasota, Fla. (970 WFLA)- Sarasota Police Detectives are trying to identify a bicycle thief, who they say is responsible for walking off with several bicycles between April 22nd, and May 27th.
The bikes were taken from several locations through out the city. Take a look at the surveillance video below, and contact Sarasota Police if you can identify the man seen in the video.
On April 22nd two specialized bicycles, a black men’s bicycle and a silver women’s bicycle were stolen from a garage on Ringling Boulevard.
On May 15, several storage units at a residence on Ringling Boulevard were broken into and a Trek 4300 men’s silver mountain bicycle was stolen.
On May 25, a victim reported to police they had two bicycles stolen from their South Gulfstream Avenue parking garage. Someone cut the lock around both bicycles and took a blue Diamond Back bicycle and tan Giant bicycle.
On May 28 A red frame 18 speed bike with a Village Bike Stamp with straight handlebars, was taken from a South Palm Ave residence Detectives believe the suspect is still in the area.
Police suggest several safety tips to keep your bicycle from being stolen, including registering your bicycle with the Sarasota Police Department. By registering your bicycle's serial number and other information can help Officers if your bicycle is stolen and later recovered. Use high quality locks, a bicycle shop can advise which locks are best for your bicycle. Always lock your bicycle, even if your away from it for only a few minutes. This includes locking your bicycle inside your garage.
