Tampa, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)-Memorial Day drivers paid more for gas than they have in the past two years according to Triple A.
The auto club says Tampa gas prices averaged $2.23 on Memorial Day. The state average was 9 cents more than last year's holiday, but 34 cents less than Memorial Day 2015.
Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater had the lowest gas prices of any major metro area in Florida.
There is some decent news ahead. The forecast for the national average is $2.40 this summer. That same forecast has Tampa gas prices averaging around $2.26 this summer. Tampa Bay gas prices averaged $2.13 last summer.
