Scott Vetoes 'Whiskey And Wheaties' Bill

Liquor Store

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (970 WFLA) - You still can't buy whiskey and Wheaties in the same store in Florida.

Governor Rick Scott has vetoed a bill that would have allowed big box stores and grocery stores alike to sell liquor in the same building.  Current law requires those businesses to either sell liquor in a separate store, or have a wall dividing the liquor into a different section.

"I listened closely to what they had to say and I understand that both positions have merit," Scott said in a statement.  "Many locally owned businesses have told me how this bill will impact their families and their ability to create jobs."

Scott also said earlier that he was concerned about easier access to liquor, as his family has experienced issues with alcoholism.
