Arrested On Stolen Valor Charges For A 3rd Time

Lakeland, Fla. (970 WFLA)- A Lakeland man is facing charges of stolen valor for the third time in four  months. 

 On April 28, Polk Deputies received information that 25-year-old Kyle Barwan, had misrepresented himself as a military member, to try to get money from a victim. 

Barwan was originally arrested on January 25, in Hillsborough County on a PCSO warrant for stolen valor, and was later transferred to the Polk County Jail.   While still in jail, on February 20th, he was additionally charged with soliciting funds and misrepresenting military service.

The latest victim says,  she was at Munn Park in downtown Lakeland when she was approached by Barwan,  He began telling her and another woman,  that he was home from the military working with the homeless while he was on leave.  He allegedly told the women, he was a member of the Green Beret and that he was getting redeployed for 18 months when he went back.

When he asked for money to help the homeless, one woman gave him some money.  When Barwan told the woman who called deputies, that she could donate too.   She explained, that she felt like she was being set up so she didn't give Barwan any money. 

Barwan is back in the Polk County Jail, being held without bond. Barwan was on felony probation when he approached the two women in the park, he's  also being charged with a violating his probation.
