TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A former Tampa Bay Buccaneer and Florida Gator who was caught bringing a loaded handgun to Tampa International Airport won't face prosecution.
Felony charges were dropped against Louis Murphy, 29, after an incident on April 12.
The former wide receiver issued a statement apologizing, saying he accidentally brought the gun to a TIA checkpoint.
Murphy said he put the Glock 23 in a backpack to hide it from his daughter, and it was an honest mistake.
Murphy was a standout player from Lakewood High School, and went on to play for the Florida Gators, winning two national titles. He later played receiver for the Bucs, but injured his knee in 2015.
He's been an unsigned free agent ever since.
