Bite Victim Pried Open Gator's Jaws

ORLANDO, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A ten year old girl who was attacked by an alligator while swimming in shallow water managed to free herself by prying open the reptile's jaws, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The victim was in two feet of water in a lake by Moss Park near Orlando when she was attacked.  The gator clamped down on her lower leg.

Officials said she was taken to Nemours Childrens Hospital for treatment.  The injuries are not life threatening.

Trappers were able to catch the alligator, which measured eight-feet, nine inches long.

The park remains closed as a precaution, according to Orange County park officials.
