Water Shortage Order Goes Into Effect Monday

Clearwater, Fla. (970 WFLA)- The Southwest Florida Water Management District, has issued a modified Phase I water shortage order that  begins Monday, May 8th and goes until July 31st, for Pinellas County, local governments within Pinellas County, and 16 surrounding counties.

Included in the order are Charlotte, Citrus, DeSoto, Hardee, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lake, Lee, Levy, Manatee, Marion, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota and Sumter counties.

The city of Clearwater already has restrictions in which residents can water twice per week, so this water shortage order will not affect Clearwater’s watering schedule.   Residents in Clearwater city limits can continue to water lawns twice per week on their designated watering days.  There is to be no watering between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for any watering source.

One important way you can conserve water in your home is to watch for and repair leaks as soon as they start.

Florida’s dry season runs October through May and April is historically one of the driest months of the year.
