Odessa, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Firefighters battle a large wildfire at Gunn Highway and State Road 54 that wind has helped spread rapidly. Pasco Co. Fire Rescue and the Florida Forest Service say that high winds have complicated their efforts to control the fire.
In an update emailed to media outlets at 12:00 p.m. Sunday, Pasco County says that it is evacuating and shutting down Starkey Wilderness Park and that it has put restrictions on flights around the area where the fire burns.
Officials have closed SR-54 down to one lane east of Gunn Highway to make room for fire trucks. They ask people to avoid the area if they can, and to expect delays if they cannot.
