Hillsborough County Commissioners have adopted a countywide burn ban.
That means Hillsborough joins Polk, Pasco, Manatee, Hernando and Citrus counties in prohibiting any type of burning.
The ban includes fireworks, campfires and yard trash burning.
Hillsborough's ban is effective for seven days. Commissioners will revisit the issue and decide whether to extend it during their board meeting next week.
The Bay Area, and most of the state, is encountering a water shortage and the worst wildfire conditions in recent years with more than 100 active wildfires in the state.
